The 2008 OCTOBERFISH competition was run throughout the month of October (funny that) with some excellent fish caught.
Prizegiving was held at the Sandspit Yacht Club on Saturday 15th. There were solid efforts by some contestants to claim the average weight snapper prize of airfares and accommodation for two people for 7 nights in Vanuatu, courtesy of Air Vanuatu, Tradewinds Resort, and United Travel. Cash prizes were awarded to the other categories. Jamie White of Whangarei featured consistently in the overall snapper category, taking 4th, 3rd, and 1st places, his heaviest being 10.02kg. Jamie fished off the rocks, accessing them by kayak. Brian Sagar weighed a snapper every day except once during the entire month! Brian Sagar picked up 5th and 2nd places, his best being 9.15kg.
